A Youth Forum Rooted in Reflection and Vision
On December 18, 2025, Serenity Resource Connector (SRC) hosted a powerful virtual youth forum titled "From Yaad to the World: Inspiring Youth Stories, Christmas Traditions, and Hopes for 2026."
Led by vibrant host Clevena Brown, the conversation centred around youth leadership, community representation, holiday memories, and what it means to grow into your voice and purpose. Two of Jamaica’s most dynamic young changemakers, Andrew Johnson (Chairman of the National Youth Council of Jamaica) and Danielle Mullings (former Guild President and Youth Advisory Council member), joined the panel to share their personal leadership journeys and hopes for the nation’s youth.
Key Takeaways: Lessons in Leadership & Purpose
Defining Leadership Moments
Danielle reflected on being recognized with a national leadership award, a moment that validated her quiet doubts about doing “enough.”
Andrew shared how global recognition — from representing Jamaica in Switzerland to being appointed to a global youth board — affirmed the global relevance of his work.
Leadership Misconceptions
You don’t need political affiliation to lead or be heard — a myth both panellists strongly challenged.
Leadership isn’t exclusive to social sciences or politics — STEM students can lead too.
Managing Personalities & Burnout
Both leaders emphasized listening, peer feedback, and mentorship as critical tools for managing diverse teams and maintaining perspective.
They acknowledged the emotional toll of leadership and the importance of boundaries, rest and self-awareness.
Grounding Forces
For Danielle: Family, faith, and vulnerability are her anchors.
For Andrew: Faith, family, and the youth communities he serves keep him aligned and humble.
Christmas Memories, Restoration, and Relief
The forum took a heartfelt turn as panellists shared nostalgic holiday memories, from Grand Market to family dinners. But the 2025 season has a deeper resonance, especially in the wake of Hurricane Melissa, which devastated parts of Jamaica’s western parishes.
Andrew announced “Operation Restore”, a youth-led relief initiative in partnership with Cool 97 FM, aiming to serve the Lambs River community in Westmoreland with food, sanitation supplies, and infrastructural aid.
“This year, Christmas for me is all about deliberate giving — beyond my own joy and toward those in need.”— Andrew Johnson
