Police Youth Club Jamaica: Highlights from Camp 2024 and What’s Next for 2025 blog cover image

This month's SRC Youth Empowerment Live Forum spotlighted the National Police Youth Club Movement's Annual Summer Camp. From start to finish, the message was firm - youth leadership isn’t waiting in the wings. It’s happening right now.

Camp 2025 is already in motion, but before we move forward, we took time to highlight what made Camp 2024 a real game-changer. If you didn’t catch it live, don’t miss the replay. This one’s filled with real experiences, solid life lessons, and the kind of growth you don’t learn in a textbook.

What Is the Police Youth Club Movement (Jamaica)?

The Police Youth Club (PYC) was established in 1954, in Sandy Bay, Hanover. It was a bold move, tackling youth crime by building a bridge between the police force and young people. That bridge has widened over the past 70+ years.

Today, there are over 135 active clubs across Jamaica. Police Youth Club (Jamaica) is a launchpad for youth leadership, empowerment, and nation-building.

Core focus areas include:

  • Mentorship and leadership development

  • Academic competitions (quizzes, spelling bees)

  • Athletics and physical wellness

  • Life skills and vocational training

  • Community service

Camp 2024: More Than a Summer Break

The HEART/NSTA Trust Certification

For one transformative week, many young people walked away with HEART/NSTA Trust certificates in real, employable skills like:

  • Tiling

  • Customer service

  • Housekeeping

  • Engine block painting

"I didn’t even know how to tile before camp. Now, I’ve got a certificate and I’m ready to earn." – Ricardo Fairman, National President

Police officers who attended also received certification, proving that learning is for everyone.

Discipline, Teamwork, and Growth

This wasn’t a free-for-all holiday. Camp 2024 started with 5:00 AM wake-up calls, dorm inspections, shared chores, and team-building challenges.

Youth leaders learnt:

  • How to work in teams and solve problems together

  • The importance of respect, timekeeping, and structure

  • That fun and discipline can co-exist
